Savage

Cody continues to make progress and his family is working on getting him transferred to a rehabilitation clinic closer to home.  They aren't sure whether it will be in MA or RI yet, but they are hoping it happens soon.  I hope no one has forgot about him, he's still fighting to get back on his board and he needs our support.

It was a good day

Started off the day a little hung over.. Me and carlos went and checked out a few new spots and then headed over to pick up Lynch-mob.  From there we headed over to Pawtucket Park-

Once we were over the park we drove back to Prov and got some food on Thayer Street.

After some much-needed grubbage, we made a quick stop at FOY

From there, Nick called and said he was headed downtown to meet up with us at "the berrics" so Carlos, Kev, and I made a trip to Lowe's to pick up some bondo to fix the new ledge.

We finally got to the berrics, fixed the ledge, and had ourselves a time.  Not to mention the new barrier that Bo made is DOPE!

Nick finally arrived! Mad epic photo~

After many hours spent skating, we ended the night at none other than the BK Lounge.

Peep some footy of the new stuff at the berrics!-

Oh and this wouldn't be a solid post without a Cody update!  It's not much, but atleast it's good news~

"Great news! As of yesterday, Cody’s off the vent, he passed the swallow test, and has been taking liquids! He now has a DVD player, watched a zombie movie and was imitating a zombie. Still fighting fevers."

and photos!

We love you Cody!  Get better soon homie.

Dat New-New

This barrier is now skatable, sorry for the old photo, but there is actually a new and smoother layer of concrete on there now which is very flush... Along with this, we built a ledge in the so-called "berrics."  If you go and skate it, please make sure it is completely dry so that it is not ruined.  We want to keep this area very clean so that we can all continue to skateboard in there.  Please be respectful, and remember; shred for cody~

All Smiles!

Hi All,

I haven’t spoken to Lea or Bob yet about Cody. Lea had to leave NY only to find out en route that her flight was cancelled due to weather in Baltimore, so she could have stayed one more day.

Bob did send this great picture!

Will get back to you as soon as I can.

Cody Update #2

Check out this photo! 5-10 minutes up!!

The Attending assessed him today and she is happy with his progress and very optimistic about his recovery. She likes the skateboard... Wants them to keep it close to him to keep him motivated.

The Neurologist is also very happy with his improvement. He said there’s no need for testing this week considering how well he’s doing. He will schedule another MRI in about a week.

He’s still fighting those infections, the cooling blanket kept his temp down today. He also has contracted C. difficile (“c. diff”). It is a bacterium that is common in your intestines, but due to antibiotics which may kill the “good” bacteria, the c .diff bacteria can grow out of control. It is very common in health care settings. Cody was at greater risk to get this infection because they are giving him broad-spectrum drugs that target a wide range of bacteria. Please pray that these infections will be cured. This seems to be a tough hurdle for him right now.

Despite the infections, he did great with OT and PT, as you can see! He also tried throwing the stress balls at the skateboard. After all the activity, he had a nice deep sleep for a few hours. A good thing, considering how agitated he was yesterday.

He is now in room 760, if anyone wants to send cards. Lori, Jenna and Mercedes put up his cards, some pictures, and a poster board collage. He also has balloons, and of course, his skateboard... And a TV.

He must be getting better... Lea was trying to talk to him and he was looking past her to the TV. Some things never change!

He’s kissing, smiling, and moving more and more every day.

Below (and attached) is a somewhat long poem that some of you may be familiar with. But it’s so worth the read. Lea and Bob... Please read it for Cody, and tell him we’re all in the stands cheering him on no matter how long it takes.
In the long term, we’d like to say along with Cody...

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Love to all,

Jeanne
The Raceby D. H. Groberg

Whenever I start to hang my head in front of failure’s face,
my downward fall is broken by the memory of a race.
A children’s race, young boys, young men; how I remember well,
excitement sure, but also fear, it wasn’t hard to tell.

They all lined up so full of hope, each thought to win that race
or tie for first, or if not that, at least take second place.
Their parents watched from off the side, each cheering for their son,
and each boy hoped to show his folks that he would be the one.

The whistle blew and off they flew, like chariots of fire,
to win, to be the hero there, was each young boy’s desire.
One boy in particular, whose dad was in the crowd,
was running in the lead and thought “My dad will be so proud.”

But as he speeded down the field and crossed a shallow dip,
the little boy who thought he’d win, lost his step and slipped.
Trying hard to catch himself, his arms flew everyplace,
and midst the laughter of the crowd he fell flat on his face.

As he fell, his hope fell too; he couldn’t win it now.
Humiliated, he just wished to disappear somehow.
But as he fell his dad stood up and showed his anxious face,
which to the boy so clearly said, “Get up and win that race!”

He quickly rose, no damage done, behind a bit that’s all,
and ran with all his mind and might to make up for his fall.
So anxious to restore himself, to catch up and to win,
his mind went faster than his legs. He slipped and fell again.

He wished that he had quit before with only one disgrace.
“I’m hopeless as a runner now, I shouldn’t try to race.”
But through the laughing crowd he searched and found his father’s face
with a steady look that said again, “Get up and win that race!”

So he jumped up to try again, ten yards behind the last.
“If I’m to gain those yards,” he thought, “I’ve got to run real fast!”
Exceeding everything he had, he regained eight, then ten...
but trying hard to catch the lead, he slipped and fell again.

Defeat! He lay there silently. A tear dropped from his eye.
“There’s no sense running anymore! Three strikes I’m out! Why try?
I’ve lost, so what’s the use?” he thought. “I’ll live with my disgrace.”
But then he thought about his dad, who soon he’d have to face.

“Get up,” an echo sounded low, “you haven’t lost at all,
for all you have to do to win is rise each time you fall.
Get up!” the echo urged him on, “Get up and take your place!
You were not meant for failure here! Get up and win that race!”

So, up he rose to run once more, refusing to forfeit,
and he resolved that win or lose, at least he wouldn’t quit.
So far behind the others now, the most he’d ever been,
still he gave it all he had and ran like he could win.

Three times he’d fallen stumbling, three times he rose again.
Too far behind to hope to win, he still ran to the end.
They cheered another boy who crossed the line and won first place,
head high and proud and happy -- no falling, no disgrace.

But, when the fallen youngster crossed the line, in last place,
the crowd gave him a greater cheer for finishing the race.
And even though he came in last with head bowed low, unproud,
you would have thought he’d won the race, to listen to the crowd.

And to his dad he sadly said, “I didn’t do so well.”
“To me, you won,” his father said. “You rose each time you fell.”
And now when things seem dark and bleak and difficult to face,
the memory of that little boy helps me in my own race.

For all of life is like that race, with ups and downs and all.
And all you have to do to win is rise each time you fall.
And when depression and despair shout loudly in my face,
another voice within me says, “Get up and win that race!”

Cody Update #1

So as many of you know, a few of us went down to visit Cody the other day in New York.  When we arrived home, I exchanged e-mails with his sister who later forwarded mine on to Cody's aunt.  She has been typing updates and e-mailing it out to all the family members so they know his condition as the days go on.  I will be posting them from day to day to let you all in on Cody's progress.  Here's the first:

Good Evening All,

Another good day. He smiled & puckered up when he saw Lea come in this morning, unprompted!

He is a little frustrated that his body can’t do what he wants. He tries to lift his body off the bed. He’s moving around more, but he’s restrained to prevent him from pulling out any lines. As difficult as it is to witness, it’s a positive thing that he’s frustrated... It means he’s getting stronger.

The Dr. asked him to move various body parts & he did fine. They started a different antibiotic today, in hopes his infections will respond. They just seem to be so stubborn.

They are trying to wean him off the vent, alternating with a CPAP to give his lungs a little push. They’re slowly giving it less and less push. Lea, correct me if I got this wrong.

It’s all good stuff, but it’s hard for Leanne to see him so frustrated. As you can imagine, it’s quite a marathon race emotionally and physically. She & Bob are trying to get a plan in place, and she still needs some answers before she leaves on Saturday. She’s having some difficulty at the prospect of leaving Cody, but she has some business she must take care of.

Thank you for your continued prayers & love, it means so much to everyone. I continue to keep you all in my daily prayers as well.

Let’s help Cody run the race!!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.
Love to all,
Jeanne

New York

Carlos, Kevin, Tone, Louis, and myself drove to New York today to visit our friend Cody who is in the hospital.  He is doing a lot better than when he first arrived, but he still has a very long road to recovery ahead of him.
We left for NY at about 3:30 this morning and arrived some time around 8.  It was too early to go to the hospital so we made a pit stop at Flushing Gardens, only to find it was fenced off for construction.

After an unsuccessful attempt at skating Flushing and visiting Cody, we headed into downtown Manhattan for a little while and then embarked on a very long ride home.  Today has been very draining, especially mentally.  Get well soon Cody, we all miss you.

Everyone please do me and Cody's family a favor and say a prayer for him.  You're gonna make it through this one homie, and we're gonna shred soon.  I promise.
